During an interview given Tuesday to TOP CONGO FM radio, Professor Jacques Djoli spoke about the remuneration of Congolese national deputies.

While a controversy has spread across social networks over the emoluments that the people’s elected representatives will receive for this fourth legislature, Professor Djoli revealed that to date, the said emoluments amount to 14 million Congolese francs, or 5,000 U.S. dollars.

The elected official from Boende stressed that it is very crucial for reasons of transparency that the salary of public agents is known to everyone. To do this, he proposes holding a national conference on salaries.

“It is important that for reasons of transparency and hygiene that we know how much an MP earns, but not only that; deputies but all public officials” declared Professor Jacques Djoli.

And added: “We need to hold the national conference on salaries”

Recall that during the previous legislature, a major debate shook Congolese opinion on the remuneration of national deputies.

Some people spoke of 21,000 American dollars, others among the elected officials denied these figures and even presented their pay slips on television sets.

Reducing the lifestyle of institutions remains a challenge for the Congolese political class.
