Wearing a bullet-proof vest and military helmet, the Congolese defense chief landed at Beni-Mavivi airport this morning for a working session with the military governor and senior army officers temporarily based in Béni, over 200 kilometers from the city of Goma.

This raid comes just days after Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi promised a vigorous response against Rwanda, accused of supporting the M23, the armed group that has been occupying the town of Goma for almost two weeks.
Alongside the military front, the Congolese government is stepping up diplomatic pressure to obtain international sanctions against Rwanda.
