Sanctions against Rwanda: Belgium fully in agreement
Faced with the security crisis in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Congolese government continues to put pressure on the international community to impose sanctions on Rwanda.

This is what Mr. Maxime Prevot, Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, says in a video sent to Mingamedia.net.
“Broader sanctions against Rwanda, particularly economic ones, can be envisaged, and I have continued to rigorously relay this position in European bodies,” he declared.

Following the occupation of the town of Goma by the M23 and the Rwandan army, David Lammy, British Foreign Secretary, warned that the UK would pull its weight to ensure that Rwanda no longer received the international aid it receives annually, estimated at at least one billion US dollars.

At this stage of the Rwandan-Congolese conflict, the recent joint EAC-SADC summit on the situation in eastern DRC called for a ceasefire, the reopening of Goma airport and the opening of a humanitarian corridor.
Last Friday, the Human Rights Council adopted a resolution establishing a commission to investigate the various crimes perpetrated in the DRC since 2022, including the M23 incursion into Goma last January.
The provisional toll from this incursion is at least 3,000 killed and over 3,000 wounded.
