DRC-RWANDA: Paul Kagame sets three conditions before meeting Félix Tshisekedi
During the interview he gave to Jeune Afrique this Monday, Rwandan President Paul Kagame reacted to the demands of President Félix Tshisekedi before a possible meeting with him.
According to President Kagame, if each of the parties to the conflict has to set conditions before a meeting, it will ultimately be of no use.
For his part, if he were to set conditions, he would notably demand a public retraction from President Tshisekedi on his threat to militarily attack Rwanda.
«Je ne rencontrerai pas le Président Tshisekedi tant qu’il ne reviendra pas sur ses déclarations à propos d’une attaque du Rwanda et de la nécessité d’un changement de régime, Comme il en a publiquement parlé, je dirai aussi que, à moins que le FDLR ne se retire du Congo» a-t-il déclaré.
Recently, the SADC decided to deploy a military force to neutralize the negative forces operating in the East of the DRC including the M23.
In order to resolve the problem without having to resort to the military option, some voices from the international community have called on both parties to de-escalate.
The idea of a meeting between Kagame and Tshisekedi is almost on everyone’s lips, however, Kinshasa has always set as a prerequisite for this meeting, the withdrawal of Rwandan troops from Congolese soil.
